Interpretations of play oscillate between considering it ‘play pretend' and 'doing over and over again'. What remains unthought in both cases is the 'doing' itself, the mere doing that playing carries in both cases and that in both cases defines it tacitly. When interrogating the doing of playing itself, we do not find a doing among others but the doing as pure doing, that is to say, as that doing without doing that perhaps defines the doing of art.
