We explore the importance of improvisation and especially that of beginnings in the work of Macedonio Fernández (1874-1952) pointing out examples from novels and philosophical texts. Said importance is interpreted in the context of certain tensions between romanticism and classicism, particularly in the music field. Finally, we provide some clues to help understand the relationship of Macedonio Fernández with music. In this regard, three unpublished letters on the subject are quoted and analyzed for the first time.
