Abstract

In this article, we analyze the thread of discussions about the conceptualization of an “other” Cuban subject developed by different authors in their respective contributions to the journals Naranja Dulce (1988-1989) and Diáspora(s) (1997-2002), founded in Cuba during and after the fall of the Berlin Wall, in relation to their future literary projects against the backdrop of bilateral relations between Cuba and “the East”.

Natascha Rempel, Leibniz Universität Hannover

Investigadora postdoctoral del Departamento de Filología Románica de la Universidad Leibniz de Hannover (Alemania). Sus campos de investigación abarcan la literatura latinoamericana, en especial la caribeña, de los siglos XX y XXI, revistas de literatura, así como producciones intermediales. En su tesis doctoral abordó la literatura cubana de la década de los noventa, sobre todo la revista Diáspora(s) (2025*). Miembro de la junta directiva de la Sociedad Alemana de Estudios del Caribe (SoCaRe, 2018-2023), es coeditora del volumen Netzwerke – Werknetze. Transareale Perspektiven auf relationale Ästhetiken, Akteure und Medien (1910-1989) (2021) y en su última publicación aborda la literatura afrocostarricense escrita por mujeres (Araya Araya/Rempel 2024).
