Che's footsteps or how to make a dead man walk: some reflections on movements, poetry and images

Abstract

The death of Comandante Ernesto Che Guevara in Bolivia had a profound impact on the entire Latin American revolutionary movement, but especially in Havana. In this article I propose to review the semiotic operations carried out by the political discourses, images, and literature of the late 1960s to continue his legacy. To this end, and focusing on the subjective and territorial displacements that characterised Guevara's life, I reflect on the ways in which signs and editorial work and/or visual reproduction managed to multiply and re-power the concept of trace.
