The novels: Don Segundo Sombra by Ricardo Güiraldes and Zogoibi by Enrique Larreta were both published in 1926 within few months apart. This fact mainly determined that many contemporary critics would read both pieces simultaneously, establishing similarities and differences from one another. Besides, both novels were a great sales success by the time they were published, which increased the amount of reviews and comments that questioned each work at the same time. It’s important to say that the documentary sources had already taken care of bonding these writings and because of that, they both participated on one of the most remarkable debates of the decade: the quarrels on the literary language. The main purpose of this paper is to partially rebuild those debates that revolved around these two novels, not only relating to the literary language issue but also with the discussion related to the idiom itself
