The article aims to review the notion of play in some of Bataille’s writings, in direct relation to other capital themes of his thought: the unproductive and sovereignty. The question of play, moreover, is linked to possible comparisons of literary creation with playful activity, such as that which Freud raised in a lecture, and which may partly coincide with Bataille’s considerations, although there are also very significant differences in this respect. Finally, a literary text that deals with games in its argument will propose a nonconclusive ethic of poetry and its relationships with other types of acts.
