“Thirty very enthusiastic boys”. About two vanguard journals from Rosario

Abstract

This paper intends to analyze Ahora and La Gaceta del Sur, two magazines published in the city of Rosario in 1928, whose editorial line was associated with artistic and literary vanguard ideas. Altogether, these publications allow us to discuss the minor place assigned to the vanguards of the early 20th century in Rosario and to reflect on the work of artistic groups close to the "new sensibility" that carried out their activity from a place of enunciation geographically located beyond Buenos Aires, in the provinces. In these two initiatives, the will of  thinking about the region aesthetically intersects with the cosmopolitan spirit of modern art, and this intersection results in specific aesthetic values ​​and modes of editorial production and circulation.
